Synopsis: Thriller set on the Austrian front in the 1914-18 war. An Austrian officer loves an Italian woman who is a spy.Synopsis: Prior to the First World War, Hauptmann von Hombergk, a colonel in the Austrian army who has been in a relationship with an Italian spy, Marcella Galdi, is framed as a spy when secret plans are planted in his apartment. Offered the chance of suicide, he declines and is demoted instead. On the outbreak of war, Austria's spies in Italy are all being captured through the work of an Italian spy in the Austrian High Command. Hombergk presents himself to the High Command and offers to go to Italy as a spy himself in order to discover the identity of the informant and to clear his name. Once in Italy, he encounters Galdi again, but she does not inform on him as she has fallen in love. Hombergk finally discovers the name of the spy, and, while stealing an airplane to travel back to Austria, Galdi is killed when she tries to join him. Arriving back in Austria, Hombergk unmasks the true spy and he is reinstated to his old command.
